There's a way
At Vattenfall, our attitude has always been that there’s a way. History has shown us that progress is rarely easy, but always possible – with the right mindset. So even when it feels like there’s no way, we say, there’s only no way until there is one.
Fossil free electricity
At Vattenfall, we’re working for a future where we can all choose fossil free ways to move, make and live. Fossil free electricity - power from wind, solar, hydro and nuclear sources - is at the heart of our commitment.
Our goal is to be free of fossil fuels in our own primary electricity and heat production by 2040. This means rapidly expanding our generation of fossil free electricity, supporting electric transport infrastructure and helping industrial partners shift from fossil fuels to fossil free solutions.

Near-zero-carbon cement
Conventional cement makes up about 8% of the world's total carbon dioxide emissions – making our buildings, roads, and infrastructure a big contributor to climate change. But recycled materials and fossil free electricity make it possible to cut these emissions by up to 95%.
Through an agreement with cement producer Cemvision, Vattenfall will be using near-zero-carbon emission cement in energy infrastructure projects across Europe from 2028.

Wind power
Wind power is the fastest growing energy source in the EU and a cornerstone of our production of fossil free electricity. Vattenfall operates more than 1400 wind turbines, producing a total of 6.6 GW in five countries. That’s enough fossil free electricity to power millions of homes and businesses.
Some of our flagship wind farms include Hollandse Kust Zuid (NL), the world’s first subsidy-free offshore wind farm, Pen y Cymoedd (UK), powering 15% of Welsh homes, and Kriegers Flak (DK), Scandinavia’s largest offshore wind farm.

There's a way
At Vattenfall, our attitude has always been that there’s a way to take on even the toughest challenges. Whether it’s building massive hydro power plants in extremely remote areas more than a hundred years ago, being part of enabling fossil free steel, or building the world’s largest offshore wind farm at the time, we know that there’s a way to do even things that once seemed impossible.
In fact, progress is happening all around us every day. Fossil free technologies already exist and are improving all the time. So even when it feels like there’s no way to leave fossil fuels behind, at Vattenfall we say, there’s only no way, until there is one.
Our strategy and vision“Our goal of fossil freedom is ambitious — and it should be. With focus on both sustainability and profitability, we know there’s a way to reach it.”
Anna Borg, President and CEO, Vattenfall
