After having been closed down since Tuesday evening, Swedish nuclear reactor Ringhals 2 was back in operation again at 18:00 Friday 3 August.
The too warm sea water (more than 25 degrees Celsius) was not capable of fully cooling the reactor and for that reason, it was decided to first reduce production to 49 per cent and later to close down the reactor entirely. After consultation with the Swedish Meteorological Institute ,SMHI, Friday morning, it was clear, that the weather conditions had improved and the sea water temperature had dropped to a level that allowed the reactor to be run according to the applicable safety instructions.
