Bruzaholm's wind turbines are arriving

The installation of 21 wind turbines in Bruzaholm has now begun. This involves, among other things, transporting the 83-metre-long turbine blades by special transport on the roads of southern Sweden.

Heavy and long transports of wind turbine parts are currently underway along the roads, deep in the forests of Småland, to Vattenfall's energy park Bruzaholm. The parts for the 21 wind turbines arrive at the port of Oskarshamn and are then transported by special vehicles to an area northwest of a small community called Bruzaholm, in Eksjö municipality. So far, tower parts, nacelles with drivelines, hubs and blades have arrived at the wind farm.

“We are following the transportation with great anticipation! It is particularly challenging to transport 63 83-metre-long wings. Each transport, including the special vehicle and the blade, stretches over 100 metres in total. Then we have the nacelle and driveline that are approximately 5 metres wide and weigh 120 tons. However, we feel very confident thanks to the subcontractor’s experience and specialized expertise. Everything has been carefully investigated and prepared. The transports are also scheduled at night to minimize disruption to traffic and residents,” says Kathinka Löfberg, project manager for the construction of the Bruzaholm energy park.

The special transport of the Bruzaholm wind turbine blades is around 100 metres in total.

While the transport is ongoing, the installation of the three lowest tower sections has already been completed on several wind turbines. Now, the large crane has arrived and begun the main installation phase, which includes the top four tower sections, nacelle, driveline, hub, and blades. Once installation is complete, each turbine will undergo thorough testing and inspection. The wind turbines will then be connected to the power grid and prepared for commercial operation.

“As soon as the wind turbines are connected to the electricity grid, they will start producing renewable electricity within the SE3 electricity area. In total, Bruzaholm energy park will contribute with 460 GWh per year. This electricity production is enough to annually supply approximately 91,500 homes with renewable household electricity. In addition, Vattenfall has signed an agreement with Volvo to sell fifty percent of the electricity produced in the wind farm over a ten-year period. The wind farm will thus support the industry in becoming fossil-free. Bruzaholm wind farm therefore constitutes an important contribution to Vattenfall's goal of fossil freedom,” concludes Kathinka Löfberg.

Bruzaholm wind farm is expected to be commissioned in December this year. Adjacent to the wind farm, Vattenfall is also building a battery storage system that will provide ancillary services such as stabilizing the power grid and reducing electricity price peaks. The battery has an energy storage capacity of 38 MWh.
