Vattenfall signs two year data center supply deal

Vattenfall and Swedish colocation service provider Hydro66 have signed a two year supply agreement for 100 percent renewable hydro power from the Luleå river, valid until 2017.

The 8.000 square meters Hydro66 colocation data center facility is located in Boden, northern Sweden. Initially the agreement covers a potential supply of 40-50 MW 100 percent renewable hydro power with certificates of Guarantee of Origin (GoO).

“We are very happy to welcome Hydro66 as a new customer and to announce another strong data center supply partnership, which is an important growth area for Vattenfall in the Nordic region. An innovative company such as Hydro66 choosing Vattenfall as supplier shows the strengths of being a solid company with a long history in Sweden. We know our business and our customers’ needs”, says Matts Wesslén, Sales Manager Energy Intensive Clients, Vattenfall Business Sales.

A 100 percent renewable energy supply, highly reliable power grids, and natural air cooling from the cold climate as well as a competitive and stable price offering are the key reasons for Hydro66 choosing Vattenfall as a supplier.

“Establishing our first green data center in Boden means we can offer at least 50 percent annual cost savings to our customers along with an environmentally friendly solution and enhanced flexibility. Vattenfall has met all our requirements and being the biggest energy business in Sweden their network, expertize in the area and production and grid possibilities made the supplier choice very easy for us”, says Paul Morrison, Business Development Director, Hydro66.

The data center industry in Northern Sweden is rapidly developing into a new basic industry and is an important new growth segment for Vattenfall in the Nordics. Vattenfall data center power supply customers already include Facebook and KnCMiner.
