Chinese high-tech datacenter chooses Vattenfall
Chinese tech company Canaan Creative has chosen Boden in northern Sweden for their establishment and expansion into Europe and Vattenfall as energy supplier. Technological development, climate smart energy in abundance and the lowered tax rates were the main reasons to Canaan’s establishment.
Canaan is a world-leading producer of blockchain solutions and ASIC microprocessors – and the first Chinese company within the sector to open a data center in Europe. Vattenfall is the chosen energy supplier and initially, the data center will operate at roughly 10 MW. The site will be up and running already in February.
“In Sweden we have a unique and stable energy system for industries such as data centers that are energy intensive and want sustainable energy solutions. We hope over time to attract more energy intensive industries to Sweden as this also means more working opportunities and a lower carbon footprint. The fact that Canaan Creative selected us shows that we are on the right track,” says Mattias Tingvall, Head of Business Development at Vattenfall.

The recently lowered tax rates for energy intensive companies, reliable power grids, natural cooling and the access to renewable energy are a few of the reasons to Canaan Creative's choice of Sweden. During autumn 2016, Vattenfall together with Skellefteå Kraft acquired The Node Pole Alliance that is dedicated to supporting data centers and high tech industry establishment in the North of Sweden.
