Vattenfall enters retail market in France

Vattenfall makes a first move to reach out to French households. Starting 1 October 2018, Vattenfall will offer retail customers climate-smart energy with the goal of helping them reduce their dependency on fossil fuels.

Vattenfall has operated in France since 2000 and supplies more than 4,000 business customers with portfolio solutions and renewable energy. The company has earlier this year announced its participation in the tender for offshore wind outside Dunkirk. Vattenfall has a clear strategy to become fossil-free within one generation and wants to support its customers to do the same, in all markets where it operates.

"France is an interesting market where we want to grow, and Vattenfall’s ambitions here match perfectly with our smart, digitalised and fossil-free strategy. I believe French retail customers will receive us in a positive way, as a climate-smart energy enabler with a clear strategy and smart solutions," says Magnus Hall, Vattenfall’s President and CEO.

Vattenfall will launch climate smart solutions including electricity and gas supply services at competitive prices. Vattenfall already offers renewable energy with a GoO (Guarantee of Origin)* to French business customers.

"All the factors are in place to ensure a successful launch. Firstly, there is our highly competitive offering, with a unique environmental commitment, combined with a high-quality customer service and powerful digital tools. Secondly, a market that is really only just starting to open up, with 80 per cent of retail customers still on regulated tariffs. This represents huge untapped potential for a major player such as Vattenfall," says Henri Reboullet, CEO of Vattenfall Energies S.A.

* Guarantee of Origin – A Guarantee of origin (GO) is an electronic document which has the sole function of providing proof to a final customer that a given share or quantity of energy was produced from renewable sources.
