Vattenfall to build Clashindarroch II onshore wind farm in UK

Vattenfall has made the final investment decision for the construction of Clashindarroch II onshore wind farm, yet another step in the company's efforts to support the transition to fossil-free energy and contribute to the UK's net-zero ambitions.

Clashindarroch II is located near the town of Huntly in Aberdeenshire, next to Vattenfall’s existing Clashindarroch Wind Farm, which has been generating fossil-free electricity for ten years. Clashindarroch II’s 14 wind turbines will generate up to 63MW renewable electricity — enough to power around 61,000 UK homes annually1.

“The UK’s onshore wind sector offers an attractive opportunity to accelerate the transition to fossil-free energy, and I’m proud that we’re advancing our commitment in this area. Clashindarroch II will contribute to the UK’s climate goals while delivering economic value to the region. Through careful environmental planning, the project is also actively supporting biodiversity,” says Ulrika Ritzén, Head of Business Unit Onshore Wind at Vattenfall.

The preparatory works for Clashindarroch II will begin in autumn 2025, while construction is expected to begin in spring 2026. First power is anticipated in summer 2027.
