Stor-Rotliden wind farm in Northern Sweden

Vattenfall and Marguerite sign long-term deal for new wind power in Sweden

Vattenfall and European infrastructure investor, Marguerite, have signed agreements for wind power purchase and balancing services for the wind farm Brännliden (42 MW) in northern Sweden.

As part of this long-term power purchase agreement (PPA), Vattenfall will purchase and manage the output of the wind farm Brännliden, under construction in the Skellefteå municipality, in northern Sweden. Vattenfall will also provide balancing services as well as market access and management of “green certificates” (Guarantees of Origin) and electricity certificates.

“We are very proud to enter this long-term cooperation with Marguerite, a solid investor with renewable ambitions. This is yet another project that fits well with our green ambition to be a leading provider of corporate renewable PPA’s. This agreement gives us even greater possibilities to offer customers long-term power deals based on renewable production,” said Lars Haavik, Lead Originator Nordic at Vattenfall.

The wind farm Brännliden will consist of 10 turbines (Vestas V136, 4.2 MW) and an estimated yearly energy output of almost 160 GWh. It is planned to be operational by February 2020.

“Teaming up with Vattenfall is an important step in the realization of the Brännliden wind farm project and we look forward to further developing our relationship with one of the region’s leading utilities,” declared Martin Sichelkow, Investment Director at Marguerite.

The agreement with Marguerite is in line with Vattenfall’s aim to become a leading provider of renewable energy to corporate customers in Europe. In relation to this, Vattenfall is building up a portfolio of PPAs, and now reached 6.2 GW of contracted capacity under management in its markets.

*Marguerite is a leading European financial investor with around 1,100 MW of renewable capacity under management. Marguerite recently commissioned its first 46.8MW onshore wind farm in Sweden in Grimsås, Tranemo Municipality, Västra Götaland County. Once built, the Brännliden wind farm will bring Marguerite’s aggregate installed capacity in Sweden to 88.8MW.
