Martijn Hagens leaves Vattenfall

Martijn Hagens, Senior Vice President and Head of Business Area Markets, has decided to leave Vattenfall to accept the role of CEO of Dutch energy company Eneco.

“After more than 20 years at Vattenfall, I feel it’s time to take on new challenges. I’m deeply grateful for the opportunities I’ve had and the incredible colleagues I’ve worked with. Vattenfall has truly been a place where I could grow, contribute, and lead with purpose. I leave with pride in what we’ve achieved together and excitement for what lies ahead.”

During his time at the company, Martijn held various leadership roles, including Head of Business Areas Customers & Solutions and Heat and Managing Director of Vattenfall N.V. Netherlands.

“Martijn has played a pivotal role in shaping Vattenfall’s strategic direction towards fossil freedom and strengthening our position in the European energy market. His performance-oriented and constructive leadership style has left a lasting impact. I want to thank Martijn for his dedication and wish him all the best in his future endeavours,” says Anna Borg, President and CEO of Vattenfall.

As an interim solution, Martijn Hagens will hand over his role as Head of BA Markets to Sjur Jensen, Vice President for the optimisation of Vattenfall productions assets, as of today. A recruitment process for a permanent successor will start immediately. Vattenfall N.V. Netherlands will be jointly managed by Alexander van Ofwegen and Cindy Kroon, executive board members of Vattenfall N.V. Netherlands, with a permanent successor to be appointed as CEO in the Netherlands in due course.
