New country manager in the UK

Vattenfall has appointed a new UK Country Manager just as the business steps up its offer to the British consumer of a more integrated, customer focused, low carbon energy service in power, heat and transport.

Danielle Lane takes up the role in August after joining Vattenfall in May this year. Danielle replaces Piers Guy, who has been UK Country Manager for five years and will leave later in the summer after 15 years with Vattenfall and Nuon UK.

In Britain to grow

Vattenfall has been developing, building and operating wind energy in the UK for almost ten years. Recently, low carbon growth opportunities in retail, heat, independent distribution and electric vehicle charging opened up as the company drives towards being free from fossil fuel in a generation.

The new, London based Country Manager is looking forward to supporting Vattenfall’s diversifying UK business. ““I am hugely excited to have the opportunity to lead Vattenfall in the UK as we build on our ten-year-old wind business. We are in Britain to grow and to support the UK’s power, heat and transport sector’s bid for freedom from fossil fuel.”

She added: “And I am in awe of Piers’ achievements in the wind industry. His enthusiasm and drive will be missed by all at Vattenfall.”

Eighteen years of wind experience

Danielle has worked in the UK wind industry for 18 years with roles at The Crown Estate, Ørsted and Centrica. She is also leading the growth of Vattenfall’s offshore wind pipeline as Director of Portfolio and Transactions Offshore.

“In Danielle we will shortly have a new UK Country Manager who has all the experience and skill we need to support the growth of Vattenfall’s UK businesses, commented Magnus Hall, Vattenfall’s CEO.

He added: ““At the same time, I am sad to see Piers leave us. He has done much to grow our UK wind business and he deserves enormous credit.”

Gunnar Groebler, Head of BA Wind said: “Piers has been very important for the growth of Vattenfall’s UK wind business. He has personally contributed a lot to the successes we are seeing today and tomorrow.”

New opportunities

Piers Guy, who has been behind the development and construction of much of Vattenfall’s UK wind pipeline – due to break through 1GW operating capacity later this summer – says he is sad to leave but looking forward to exploring the next chapter in his career in renewable energy.

He said: “I started in wind power in the early 1990s working in places like US, Canada and Morocco but it is in the UK – with Nuon and Vattenfall – where I feel I have contributed the most to a fossil-free future. I will look fondly on my many years here but it’s time to move on and explore new opportunities in the fast developing UK renewables industry.”

He concluded: “I wish Danielle all the very best in her new role as UK Country Manager. Vattenfall faces an unbelievably exciting future in the UK as we branch out into new areas. In many ways, Vattenfall’s purpose to power climate smarter living will be forged in the crucible of the UK’s energy transition.”
