Powered by Diversity: Vattenfall Ethnicity Days 2025

Vattenfall celebrated what makes the company unique — and what brings people together. Vattenfall Ethnicity Days was a month of connection, learning and celebration. October marks Black History Month in the UK and Ireland, and ends with Diwali, the Indian festival of lights. These moments inspired us to reflect on the power and benefits of multi-ethnic workplaces.

Diwali celebrations in different Vattenfall markets

“At Vattenfall, we are proud to be home to colleagues from every corner of the world, united by our shared mission: fossil freedom. With 94 nationalities, our workforce spans different backgrounds, cultures and languages. This diversity is not a nice-to-have — it’s a strategic advantage. Teams that reflect a variety of ethnicities and nationalities are proven to be more creative, better at problem-solving and more adaptable to change. In a fast-moving energy landscape, our people are our success factor.” – Stephanie Hinton-James, Director of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion

A multi-ethnic workplace helps us better understand the world we serve, challenges assumptions and fosters cultural intelligence, empathy and collaboration — all essential ingredients for success. It makes us more resilient, more creative, more human. Throughout October, the DEI Office hosted a series of expert speaker sessions on Black history and the psychology of cultural identity, broadcast digitally in English and open to all employees. In addition, local Diwali celebrations co-organised with the Diverse Energy Networks, Vattenfall employee resource groups, took place in several markets — a space to come together, be inspired and experience the joy of cultural exchange firsthand.

Vattenfall Ethnicity Days was a chance to learn, connect and contribute to a more inclusive future, celebrating the richness of global teams as well as the Indian festival of lights and thus also light triumphing over darkness.
