Vattenfall employees celebrating at the Circular Electronics Awards, organised by Inrego

Vattenfall IT wins circularity award

Vattenfall has been announced as the winner of the Circular Leader of the Year award at the Circular Electronics Awards, organised by Inrego. Colleagues from IT Sustainability at Vattenfall have significantly strengthened the collaboration with Inrego in 2024, now involving several European countries in creating circular IT.

Vattenfall has been making significant strides towards a circular economy within IT through its collaboration with Inrego, a Swedish company expert in reused IT. This partnership, which began in 2009, today spans across Sweden, Poland, Denmark, Finland, Belgium, the Netherlands, and the UK. In Germany, Vattenfall cooperates with another partner for many years.

Here is why Vattenfall was nominated for the prize according to Inrego:

“Vattenfall’s ambitious sustainability goals are reflected in every decision they make, not least through creating a dedicated sustainability team within IT. This team aims to drive internal influence and advocate for improvement in sustainable IT practices.

In 2024, the level of ambition in their collaboration expanded further, now including multiple European countries in a circular IT ecosystem Additionally, more product categories, operations and new services have been developed to ensure an even more circular flow.”

This cooperation with Inrego is part of Vattenfall's broader IT sustainability strategy, which aims to ensure the return and reuse of end-user equipment. Over 2024, more product categories, operations, and new services have been included, showcasing Vattenfall's dedication to reducing electronic waste and contributing to a circular economy. Together, we have successfully sent over 20,000 products for reuse.

“We are thrilled that all our efforts for circularity are being noticed. We have been driving sustainability in IT for a long time and 2024 has been a turning point in how we have stepped up to the next level of ambition and how our sustainability initiatives are being recognized and received,” Johanna Häägg, IT Sustainability Manager, shares.

“It’s truly a pleasure collaborating with Vattenfall, and this award is a testament to your dedication and impact in the field. The nomination for Leader of the Year, recognizes Vattenfall’s outstanding work in circularity with electronics,” Isabell Millestu, Communication Strategist at Inrego, concludes.
