Vattenfall Chief Diversity Officer role rotates to Martijn Hagens

Within Vattenfall’s executive group management, the assignment of Chief Diversity Officer rotates between members. As of 9 April, Head of Business Area Markets Martijn Hagens will take over the baton from Andreas Regnell, Head of Strategy.

Martijn Hagens has been part of Vattenfall’s EGM since 2015 and is excited to take on this responsibility:

“Diversity, equity and inclusion are key to our commercial success. They’re not just part of our values - they’re essential to our strategy. To achieve fossil freedom, we need creativity and new ideas, which come from different perspectives. By working together, we become stronger. In this day and age, it seems more important than ever to stress the importance of celebrating our differences and creating a feeling of belonging for everyone, both employees and customers”, Hagens states.

“I care deeply about these topics and look forward to continuing to drive diversity, equity and inclusion at Vattenfall”.

The Chief Diversity Officer role at Vattenfall was created ten years ago. Vattenfall aims to reflect the communities it operates in, fostering close connections with customers and stakeholders.

“This is only possible when our team embodies the diversity of the world around us and when we create opportunities for our employees to leverage their unique skills and expertise to the fullest”, says Stephanie Hinton-James, Director of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion.

Vattenfall was named a Leader in Diversity by the European Diversity Leaders Ranking in 2024, highlighting its commitment to stay the course and ensure Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) is embedded throughout the organisation. Hinton-James explains:

“DEI is a strong movement at Vattenfall, for which we are very proud, and this result is important acknowledgement of our collective efforts. In 2025 we plan to further build on our achievements by deepening our integration of DEI in everything we do and through all the experiences our people have. I’m delighted to have continued EGM-support for DEI with Martijn Hagens now stepping into the role”.
