Local children looking for a performance boost

Pupils from Clatt Primary School are looking forward to putting on performances in the new academic year, following an award from the Clashindarroch Wind Farm Community Fund established by wind farm owner Vattenfall.

The Parent Teachers Association has been awarded £3,645 from the fund, towards the purchase of their own staging which can be shared with Clatt Village Hall, thus removing the need to hire staging equipment.

Carol Bristow of the PTA said: “We are delighted to receive this award.  Clatt Primary is a small school and it is always difficult for the PTA to fundraise for such large items.  This award will allow the community to celebrate the creative side of our children through performances which everyone will now be able to see. The wider community will also benefit from use of the staging at the village hall. Such activity helps to ensure that the school and community continue to have a viable long-term future"

Pete Kunz, Vattenfall’s Service Leader for the Clashindarroch Wind Farm said: “It is always good to see the ways in which Vattenfall has been able to help small rural communities enhance their cultural life.  I am delighted that the Panel has made this award to help the children and community in Clatt.”

Other awards made in the latest round of funding include:

  • Deveron Projects – an initial award of £3,000 with a possible additional £2,000, to purchase fruit trees, seeds and plants, tools, and other gardening equipment as part of the group’s "garden city" project.

  • Huntly Fire Station community fund - £5,000 to purchase a bouncy castle and storage container, to be used for charity fund-raising, including at the Fire Station’s annual open day.

The Clashindarroch Wind Farm Community Fund, which benefits the four areas served by the Huntly, Strathbogie and Tap o’ Noth Community Councils and the Cabrach Community Association, is managed on behalf of the developer of the Clashindarroch Wind Farm, Vattenfall by Foundation Scotland.  Vattenfall, the owner of the 18 turbine wind farm, pays £185,000 (index linked) into the fund every year.
