Early work starts on proposed Adlingfleet wind farm
- Up to eight turbines with a potential generating capacity of around 56 megawatts
- Enough electricity to power 45,000 to 50,000 homes each year
- Environmental studies and community feedback will help shape the design
Vattenfall is exploring proposals for a new onshore wind farm in the East Riding of Yorkshire and North Lincolnshire.
Adlingfleet Wind Farm would be located near Adlingfleet, Garthorpe, Fockerby and Luddington. Current proposals are for up to eight turbines with a potential generating capacity of around 56 megawatts (MW).
If approved, the wind farm could generate enough homegrown electricity to power approximately 45,000 to 50,000 homes annually. Increasing the supply of onshore wind can strengthen UK energy security, reduce exposure to volatile imported fossil fuel prices and help keep electricity costs down for bill-payers.
The project is at an early stage and no final turbine layout has been decided. Environmental and technical studies will examine issues including landscape and visual effects, ecology, birds, flood risk, noise, traffic and aviation. Their findings, alongside feedback from local communities and other stakeholders, will inform the design.
If developed, the project could also support local jobs, contracts and spending during construction and operation. Vattenfall will work with local businesses and communities to identify opportunities for skills development, supply-chain participation and community investment.
Robin Stewart, Project Manager for Adlingfleet Wind Farm, said:
“Adlingfleet could produce homegrown electricity while creating opportunities for local businesses and workers. The project is at an early stage, and environmental evidence and local feedback will help us develop the most appropriate design for the site.”
- Notes to editors
Adlingfleet Wind Farm is being explored on land near Adlingfleet, Garthorpe, Fockerby and Luddington, across the East Riding of Yorkshire and North Lincolnshire. - The emerging proposal comprises up to eight turbines with a potential generating capacity of approximately 56MW. No final layout or turbine model has been selected.
- The estimate of electricity for approximately 45,000 to 50,000 homes annually is based on projected capacity using the RenewableUK UK Wind Energy Database methodology.
- Vattenfall submitted a Scoping Report to East Riding of Yorkshire Council and North Lincolnshire Council in September 2026. It sets out the proposed scope of the Environmental Impact Assessment.
- The assessment and design process will consider environmental and technical matters including landscape and visual effects, ecology and biodiversity, ornithology, hydrology and flood risk, noise, traffic, aviation, cultural heritage and cumulative effects.
- Local people will be invited to comment when the environmental and technical work has progressed and early design proposals are available. The current expectation is that public consultation will take place in spring or summer 2027.
- The current expectation is that planning applications will be submitted to the two local planning authorities in autumn 2027. If permission is granted, construction is expected to begin in the early 2030s.
- Further information, including the Scoping Report and project updates, is available on the Adlingfleet Wind Farm website.
- Information about Vattenfall’s other UK wind projects is available on the Vattenfall UK projects website.
