Health and Safety
We have a strong culture of care for everyone working at and for Vattenfall.
Vattenfall's purpose to enable fossil freedom that drives society forward can only be realised in a safe, inspiring, and caring work environment for everyone working at and for Vattenfall. This is why Health and Safety is at the heart of Vattenfall’s strategy and a key component in running a sustainable business.
Health and Safety is managed in a systematic and proactive manner according to the principles of ISO 45001. Our goal is zero accidents, injuries or work-related ill-health, and we do not tolerate harassment of any kind.
World class Health and Safety is a strategic priority for us. We set the highest standards, never compromise, and have a strong culture of care for everyone working at, and for, Vattenfall.
Achieving world class Health and Safety
At Vattenfall, we are committed to achieving world class Health and Safety. This means fostering a mature and proactive company culture, supported by measurable, proven and excellent performance, that consistently places us among the top three when benchmarked against our peers in the European energy sector.
Vattenfall is implementing a five‑year, company‑wide Health and Safety (H&S) strategy for 2026–2030, prioritising three strategic areas:
- Health and Safety ownership. The aim is that everyone at Vattenfall feels empowered and committed to health and safety. Every individual should know what’s expected, and also have the tools, confidence and drive to take ownership of the health and safety responsibilities.
- Health and Safety risk management. Risk identification, risk prevention and risk mitigation is at the centre of improving H&S practices and outcomes, eliminating fatalities and decreasing the frequency and severity of workplace illness and injuries.
- Health and Safety efficiency. We drive continuous improvement and strengthen our efficiency by standardising, simplifying, and digitalising our processes and ways of working.
We track our progress using both leading indicators – such as the World Class H&S plan fulfillment score and our Health Index – and lagging indicators, including Lost Time Injury Frequency, Total Recordable Incident Frequency, and sick leave. H&S performance reports are compiled and cascaded from top management through all Business Areas and Business Units to ensure full transparency and follow‑up.
