Industry decarbonisation

Fossil-free hydrogen directly from offshore wind

Zeevonk is a pioneering energy initiative by Vattenfall and Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP), designed to accelerate the Dutch energy transition. At the heart of Zeevonk lies a bold ambition: to integrate offshore wind, floating solar, and large-scale renewable hydrogen production into one cohesive system.

Powered by offshore wind-generated electricity, the Zeevonk electrolyser will enable the large-scale production of renewable hydrogen, helping to decarbonise heavy industry, transport, and the wider energy system.

By harnessing offshore wind directly for hydrogen production, Zeevonk strengthens strategic energy autonomy and enhances system flexibility. It also aligns with national and European goals for climate neutrality. The hydrogen produced will be fed into the local infrastructure, providing a renewable fuel supply for industrial clusters and potentially for export.

Zeevonk demonstrates how integrating offshore wind with solar and hydrogen production can support the electrification and decarbonisation of heavy emitting industries.
