Vattenfall comments on the Heat networks regulation: consumer protection consultation

Ofgem has published a joint consultation with the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero and is seeking views on proposals for consumer protection requirements and the approach to regulating the sector. Read Vattenfall's comment below.

Bindi Patel, Head of Customer Experience at Vattenfall Heat UK commented:

"Vattenfall welcomes the joint Ofgem and Department for Energy Security and Net Zero's consultation, "Heat networks regulation: consumer protection". The UK needs to accelerate the transition to low carbon heat and renewable energy for homes and businesses, ending its reliance on fossil fuels. Heat networks are proven to be cost-effective in delivering reliable, low carbon heating at scale.

"This consultation is part of a wider regulatory framework to increase the deployment of heat networks to provide 20% of all heat demand by 2050, whilst ensuring customers connected to a heat network are protected and guaranteed a high quality service. Ensuring consumers are a ‘central pillar’ of an incoming regulatory environment was a key request in a the "Heat Networks: Consumer Protection Regime" report by Energy Systems Catapult, funded by Vattenfall."
