Wind farm recruiting Project Officer to further protect Scottish wildcat

  • Clashindarroch II Wind Farm is looking to recruit a Wildcat Project Officer.
  • The role has been developed to oversee the improvement of habitats and help reduce interbreeding with feral domestic cats.
  • The role will also involve working with the local community to increase understanding of the protected species.

Clashindarroch II Onshore Wind Farm is looking for a Wildcat Project Officer to lead ambitious plans to further support the area’s wildcat population.

The plans include overseeing the creation and improvement of habitats for Scottish wildcat locally, as well as a programme to protect the viability of wildcat populations and reduce interbreeding with feral domestic cats through a licensed Trap, Neuter, Vaccinate, and Release programme. The role will also encompass educational work with local stakeholders on wildcat ecology. The work will be guided by a panel of independent ecological experts, to which NatureScot will be invited.

In addition, the Wildcat Project Officer will enable the local community around the Clashindarroch Forest to learn more about Scottish wildcats, with plans to run workshops and build model dens to increase understanding of this important species.

Vattenfall is inviting experts to come forward and apply for this exciting role.

Robin Cox, Environmental Specialist at Vattenfall said:

“We are looking for someone truly passionate about the future of the Scottish wildcat to fill this new role, which will be based locally in and around Huntly, Aberdeenshire.

“We design our wind farms very carefully, not just to reduce carbon emissions but also to help protect and enhance wildlife and nature. By creating new habitats and improving connectivity, the work intends to open up new areas for the Scottish wildcat to roam and breed.”

The role, which will be overseen by an independent advisory group, will run over at least the next five years, and will be fully funded by the wind farm.

Expressions of interest in the Wildcat Project Officer role are welcome from suitably qualified individuals and organisations with appropriate previous experience in wildcat or protected mammal conservation programmes to: clashindarrochII@Vattenfall.com

We welcome your application no later than 31/12/2024.
