Vattenfall IDNO partners with Netcontrol to improve efficiency of networks

  • Vattenfall IDNO has teamed up with Netcontrol to improve the reliability and efficiency of its UK electricity networks.
  • The partnership will bring Netcontrol’s smart automation technology—like Remote Terminal Units (RTUs) and SCADA systems—into Vattenfall IDNO’s infrastructure.
  • This will help detect faults faster, improve visibility, and give engineers better control of the network.

Vattenfall IDNO has entered a strategic partnership with Netcontrol to roll out advanced automation solutions across its UK electricity networks.

The collaboration will see Netcontrol’s Remote Terminal Units (RTUs) and SCADA systems integrated into Vattenfall IDNO’s infrastructure, enabling faster fault detection, improved network visibility, and enhanced operational control.

The partnership supports Vattenfall IDNO’s commitment to delivering resilient grid connections that meet the evolving needs of developers and communities across the UK.

Netcontrol’s technology will be deployed across Vattenfall IDNO’s Independent Distribution Network Operator (IDNO) sites, providing real-time data and remote control capabilities that reduce downtime and improve service continuity.

The agreement also includes the use of Netcontrol’s NCU3 RTUs and NSpower SCADA platform, which are designed to support distributed energy resources and facilitate the transition to a smarter, low-carbon energy system.

Stewart Dawson, Managing Director at Vattenfall IDNO, said:

“This partnership with Netcontrol is a key step in our mission to build smarter, more resilient networks. By integrating advanced automation and control technologies, we’re not only improving reliability for our customers but also laying the groundwork for a more flexible and sustainable energy future.”

Paul Smith, UK Country Manager at Netcontrol, said:

“We’re delighted to be working with Vattenfall IDNO to support their digitalisation journey. Our solutions are designed to provide utilities with the tools they need to manage increasingly complex networks, and we look forward to helping Vattenfall deliver even greater value to their customers.”

The first installations under the partnership are already underway, with further rollouts planned across Vattenfall IDNO’s growing portfolio of UK sites.
